Description: BG's producer
puts it down for Detroit's streets on this 14 track banger.
For years this rapper/producer has been
a part of Detroit’s underground rap community keeping busiest
as beatmaker for a slew of artists, from national mainstays
(Too Short, MC Breed) to up ‘n’ comers like Da Fanatics,
Mersonary Killaz, North Park Drive, Al Nuke, G-Side, S.W.O.T.,
Bombshell, etc. His first full length solo effort brings
you 100 percent Kidd as he comes into his own and shows
both top notch production and rapping with a host of partners
guesting. On Temper A Mental, Kidd’s anger manifests it
self in both the beats and raps with hard street tracks
and lyrics detailing Detroit’s rough surroundings. He leads
the album off with sentiments of being fed-up. “The World’s
Insane” chronicles life experiences and family drama that
would bring most to a breaking point. The artist’s production
work mixes Dre-influenced keys with various west coast/midwest
drum patterns, making them all his own. On “Wet Em Up” the
sinister vocals of Citty Gee of Mersonary Killaz share verses
and choruses with Kidd’s own raw voice and menacing raps.
On “Detroit City” the vibrant up tempo track makes for a
rowdy street anthem for Detroit’s proud ... “Yo, I put this
down so the world can see how my ni**az out here livin’
in the 313, ain’t no difference in you, ain’t no difference
in me, from now onto infinity we party and make Gs.” One
standout is “Throw Ya Hands Up” with a dirty street beat,
Kidd’s vocals are joined by the thick drawl of Jayski Capone,
a new rapper to keep your eye on. A very rowdy chorus should
sit well in the mix next to Lil Jon and The Eastside Boyz.
On “Money, Sex, Hoes and Weed” North Park Drive makes a
tight appearance with their labelmate, bringing slight comparisons
with Do Or Die and Goodie Mob. “Rolling the Dice” will remind
listeners of LA’s gangsta rap scene. “Blue” borrows a healthy
dose of Sade’s familiar voice and music. Kidd lays a competent
track overtop but could do more to make it his own. “10
Til 2” is back to the gritty street drum tracks and hype
keyboard blasts with tales of clubbin’, women and brew.
Those looking for the bridge between dirty south tracks
and Detroit style rapping need look no further. Kidd’s latest
will have many wide open!
